A good haircut that’s manageable at home

A basic make up kit to enhance your natural beauty (foundation/ tinted moisturiser, mascara, lip-gloss/lipstick, blusher)

Wearing colours that suit you (clothing and make up)

Taking good care of your skin, cleansing, regular facials

Hands are always on display so manicures or neatly filed nails are essential

Good posture – Sit up straight and walk tall.

Have a facial to brighten your complexion, the change of weather can make the skin look dull and sallow. Drink plenty of water to rehydrate the skin after spending long amounts of time in a centrally heated room, hot water with a slice of fresh lemon is very refreshing.

Try not to have the bath water too hot because it has a very drying effect on the skin. Do a full body exfoliation while you soak in the bath and then pat skin dry and use a good body moisturiser to make your skin glow.

In the winter months an everyday body tanning product can be used to give the skin a bit of colour, but you can just do the parts of you’re your body that are on show, take care to exfoliate feet, elbows and knees regularly to remove excess tan build up.

Shape your eyebrows, if you can’t do it yourself then get them done professionally. Eyebrows give the eyes definition.

Treat yourself to a new foundation if you’ve had the old one for a while. Skin tones change with the seasons, if your skin is flawless you can get away with just using a tinted moisturiser. Go to the make up counters and test 2/3 different colours closest to your skin tone on your jaw line, the colour that disappears into your skin is the right shade. Take a small mirror with you and always check it in daylight before you purchase it.

Now you’re all set for the new season ahead!!

Bridal Hair Article

Gorgeous Bridal Hair

Helping a bride to choose a suitable hairstyle for her wedding day can be fun if you both have an open mind. Some brides will see a style and think “Wow I love that hairstyle” but in reality their hair length and texture isn’t right for the style they’ve seen! Hairdressers should have some images available for the brides to view to give them an idea of styles they may be able to achieve for brides. One of my favourite long hair industry celebrity stylists is Patrick Cameron and he has some of the best books on how to do fantastic styles too. Length and volume can be added with extensions and there are lots on the market.

Check the condition of the bride’s hair in the run up to the wedding day! A series of conditioning treatments will help to get her hair into tip top condition. For brides that are growing their hair, advise them to have a trim every six weeks to get rid of split ends.
Brides and the stylist should choose a style that will look good with the dress and hair accessories. It’s easier if the stylist can see the dress and accessories to give them an overall view of what type of hairstyle would look best with the dress so ask the bride to be to bring a picture with them.

Book the bride in for a trial run, before the wedding day. I would recommend a trial run 6 weeks before the actual wedding day. If the hairstyle that they dreamed of does not look as good on them as they had hoped, they’ll be glad they found that out before the big day! Bear in mind that hair thickness and length may not be suitable for the bride to be’s chosen style and advise accordingly. Ask the bride to bring her veil, tiara or any other accessories along to the appointment.

Throughout the trial check the brides comfort levels, if the pins or hair accessories are causing discomfort, ask her to let you know so they can be adjusted. The last thing a bride needs on her wedding day is painful pins!

At the trial appointment it’s always a good idea to take pictures. A stylist should take pictures from all angles so that you have a record for on the wedding day. Offer to take photos for the bride too! Bride to be’s love to show pictures of how they will look to their Mum’s and bridesmaids.

Hair colouring or any other chemical treatments for the big day should be done a few weeks before so that the colour has time to settle down. Highlights should be done a week or so before the wedding so that they look freshly done. Give the final trim or cut no later than two weeks prior to the wedding date. Just before the wedding is not the time to try out a drastic new look, such as cutting long hair into a short style or completely changing the colour.

Ask the bride if she is taller than the groom or are they both the same height. Hair up styles can add quite a lot of height to the bride. Also take into account the height of their shoes. A bride that is much shorter than the groom can use a hair up style to even out the height differences.

An elaborate a hairstyle may be in competition with the brides face and dress, but its what the bride is happy with that matters the most.

It’s not just a certain bride-to-be who’s going to want to be looking her very best on her big day when all eyes are upon her. Okay, it might not be the eyes of the world, and okay, not every bride is going to have the pick of the very best of experts to make sure everything is perfect.

Every bride does have access to Fushi’s new Bride and Beautiful Essential Wedding Kit, with complete with tried and tested remedies for glowing skin, healthy hair and even something to manage the hissy fits, so that you can positively shine on your big day.

And, since most brides want to lose a few inches before the wedding and certainly before their honeymoon, Fushi also offers something that not only boosts weight loss, but also gives energy levels a welcome boost.

The products in the kit are:

Monochrome Gift Box

BEAUTY TOTALE, an advanced skin, hair and nails nutriceutical complex with 24 very essential nutrients. Recommended to start using 1 month before D Day.

MOROCCAN ARGAN OIL, is a renowned beauty oil with outstandingly intensive moisturising effects for smoother, youthful skin and nourished hair that’s glossy and in peak condition for any styling. Start using 1 month before, massaging into skin and hair three times a week.

LEMON BALM and LAVENDER HERBAL DRINK calms the nerves and relaxes the senses.

I have been using the ‘Moroccan Argan Oil’ and taking ‘Fushi’s Total Body Slim Complex’ for the last 2 weeks.

I love the Argan oil and its really made a dramatic difference to my hair. Its softer and more manageable. It says to use it 3 times and week and that is enough. I have used it on my face and its too oily for me because I have very oily skin. I am using it on my décolleté though to give that area a boost and keep it supple. Its amazing. You need such a small amount so a little goes  long way! I really recommend this product.

I’m not very good at taking pills but I decided to give these a try. I have lost a bit of weight and my clothes are fitting better. You do need to think about what you eat too. Taking these is not substitute for bad eating habits. The pills are capsule shaped and you need to take them with water and food 3 times daily.

The ‘Bride and Beautiful’ kit can be purchased from Fushi or at selected Waitrose, Ocado, Daylesford Organic

Bridal Hair and Make Up Trends for 2011

The look for 2011 is flawless skin. To achieve this I recommended a series of salon facials to get skin to its optimum hydration with weekly exfoliation at home in between treatments. Most salons offer consultations so you can get advice on what type of facial would suit your skin type! If the products you’re using now aren’t giving you the desired results then discuss this with your skin therapist during the consultation. Its important to prepare hair and skin for the wedding day. The photos will show how great the condition of how your skin and hair are. If you’re unsure always seek advice. A salon therapist or hairstylist will be qualified to give the best advice. Images give ideas of styles but sometimes hair pieces or extensions are needed to get the desired look.

Make up will only look as good as the skin it’s on. A great skin gives the perfect blank canvas for the make up artist to apply her base to. The bridal make up look for 2011 is a natural or nude eyes with lashings of mascara or eyelash extensions. Lip colour is going to be big this year too. If you want to add colour to your eyes then go for pastels that can range from very pale to vibrant. Strong eyes go with neutral or pale lips and neutral eyes go with stronger lip colours. For lip staying power colour the entire lip in with a matching lip pencil and add your lipstick or gloss over the top.

Vintage glamour is big this year too! The vintage style will go with the whole vintage wedding theme it might look out of place otherwise. 1940’s and 1950’s are a great look for this with red hot lips and long lashes being the key to achieving this style.

Hair styles for this year are varied. The messy updo is still in and so is the bouffant chignon. The natural look with loose bouncy curls is also in. The chosen style will all depend on the overall look that the bride wants to achieve. For vintage glamour large finger waves are to die for. Book regular trims if you’re growing your hair.

The groom should also have skincare treatments to get skin glowing. Men’s hands usually get forgotten and need to be manicured for the big day. Clean smooth hands with filed nails and soft cuticles will make all the difference to the wedding photos! Get short hair cut a couple of days before so that the cut settles into shape! Longer hair should be trimmed no later than two weeks prior to the wedding day. Don’t over do the hair styling products, the hedgehog look went out In the 80’s.

A Fifties Wedding

Today I’d like to share with you a post by the fabulous Charlie of Fifties Wedding. We both share a love of all things vintage!

A Fifties Wedding

I love a vintage bride, and for me there is no better decade than the fabulous fifties! The 1950s oozes glamour & sophistication – think Marilyn Monroe, Sandra Dee, Grace Kelly & Audrey Hepburn. If you’re looking for some 50s inspiration on your wedding day these icons of the last century should be top of your list.

Generally weddings in the fifties were very traditional, and when brides today talk about having a fifties wedding what they generally mean is inspired by the decade – e.g. the fashion, the music, patterns (such as polka dots). Certainly this was the case for my own wedding.

For most real 1950s brides they still wore white, full-length gowns, though the shorter style dresses had become more popular towards the end of the decade. Today’s 50s inspired wedding dresses tend to reflect the fashion of the era. A classic 50s style dress on today’s modern bride is classy, stylish and flattering to any shape. Think high waists and petticoats, lace, modest necklines and shorter or tea-length gowns. These dresses from Dolly Couture and Joanne Fleming Design illustrate the look perfectly.

As for hair, 1950s hairstyles were generally shorter than the preceding decade, and fabulous curls and elegant buns were the order of the day to recreate that movie star look. For a bride I love Audrey’s updo and Grace Kelly’s curls.

The 50s wedding reception was much less lavish compared to today’s standards. It was very traditional. There were certainly no cupcakes – the wedding cake was the traditional fruitcake covered with marzipan & icing, with the top tier saved for a first christening. Since the war had not long ended, not all foods were widely available yet (particularly at the start of the decade). For my grandparents, they served cocktails for guests instead of champagne.

As far as makeup went, peaches, pink and creams were popular, and lips were either pink or bright red. Eyeliner was thick and mascara was important to accentuate the eyes. Blue & green eye shadow made an appearance, though generally eye shadow was quite muted.

For fifties inspired hair accessories, my favourite is the birdcage veil, which always looks so stylish. For bridal jewellery, long sparkly earrings really give that movie star glamour. Long white gloves can finish off the look.

I think the reason why I love the 1950s so much is that the women (and men) seemed to look so alluring and fashionable without even trying! The hemlines and necklines were simple, and a pair of drop pearl earrings and a beautiful updo could transform a woman into the epitome of sophistication and glamour. I also love the music and the old movies. Sometimes I think I was born in the wrong decade!
